We always talk about how important it is for real estate developers to assume greater environmental responsibility in order to reduce our carbon footprint. However, there are some additional benefits to “green” building that extend beyond a desire to preserve our natural environment.
Recent studies have shown that new green buildings or even those retrofitted with green technology help to increase tenant productivity and decrease the average amount of sick days. That’s right, get more work done and stay healthy. The study, conducted by the University of San Diego, showed that respondents reported an average of 2.88 fewer sick days per year. Additionally, 55% of the study’s participants claimed that they had increase productivity in their green building.
Another report releaseD late last year by the U.S. Green Building Council revealed that the construction of new green buildings or implementing green technologies into older buildings will support nearly 8 million U.S. jobs and contribute an estimated $554 billion into the economy over the next four years.
Save the Earth, protect your health, and contribute to the ailing economy – what other incentives can you ask for to start building green?
